A SURVEY OF ACCOUNTING SYSTEM IN COMMUNITY BANKING

ABSTRACT: The focus of this study is to examine accounting system in community banking using Ogui Community bank as case study. Survey research design was implored for the study and with the aid of convenient sampling method, the researcher purposively enrolled thirty-six participant who are staff in Ogui community bank for the study. A well structured questionnaire was issued to the respondent of which thirty (30)  responses where retrieved and validated for the study. Data was analyzed using frequencies and table. Hypothesis test was conducted using Chi-Square statistical tool (SPSS v.2.3.).

Findings from the study revealed that accounting system is of great significance to community banking however, the strategies used by community banks in her accounting system have not been very efficient and effective. Findings from the study also revealed though the bank is aware of this new innovation, Ogui Urban community bank have no efficient machinery to implement her planned programmes for efficient accounting system. The study therefore recommends that 1.Community banks should improve their accounting system in order to generate quality, reliable and timely accounting information in the light of the change in digital banking.
